Football Friday!

We celebrated the start of football season by wearing our college shirts last Friday! We were excited to show off our favorite teams. In our class we had Florida State, University of Florida, University of Central Florida and Notre Dame. We were proud to show off the colleges we root for!
Even at the kindergarten age, there was some team rivalry!

Early Friday morning after we showed off our sports wear, Miss. Creekmore chopped up apples, and started cooking cinnamon applesauce! We had the sweet scent of fall drift throughout our room all day until we enjoyed it later in the afternoon :)

Once the apples cooked for about 4 hours, we mashed them up, and gave them a few good stirs...

We loved the applesauce! Some of us thought it was a bit different than store bought applesauce, but agreed it was much better!

Math Fun and Friendship!

Math has been an exciting time in our class this past week. We used all different types of manipulatives to sort and differentiate attributes. In this particular lesson, we used large buttons and the children had to find matching attributes from the bowl. After they found them, they were to create a different type of color or size from the shape they chose, draw it, and glue it next to the buttons.

This past week was all about Friendship and making new friends at school. Our theme was across most subject areas, but especially in reading and language arts. To end the week with a special activity, we made friendship fruit salad! Here we are with our different fruits we brought from home ready to add to the big bowl...

Each child was able to come to the table and pour in their specially made fruit for their friends!

We added kiwi-

Bananas-

Peaches-

Cantaloupe-

Pears-

Blueberries-

And much more! We had so much fruit that we shared it with all of our teacher friends down our hallway- they ate it up!

And so did we...

All About Kindergarten!

We are officially settled into kindergarten! This week was our last week of routines and procedures and next week we dive into our first reading unit. During our routines and procedures lessons, we learned about things that kindergarteners forget...put the top back on the marker, a little glue goes along way, scissors are used for paper, and paper is picked up from the floor.
We spent a lot of time reading rhyming poems and making up our own rhyming words.
Here we are cutting and pasting rhyming words

During our language arts lessons, we use the smart board for interactive activities. We hear stories, poems, look at pictures and even use it to practice sight words and handwriting. The children love participating on the smart board!

During our science lesson this week we learned how living things need food, water, shelter and space to live. To make the children understand this better, they had to stand in a hoola hoop and realize that there was little to no room to move around, or lay down to sleep.

We started with only two of us, and then they had to come one by one and try to fit in the hoola hoop. As you can see, it didn't work very well :)

We have only been in school for eight days and we have already celebrated many birthdays! Noah celebrated on Monday, and Hailey and. Miss.Creekmore celebrated on Friday! We enjoyed tasty treats and everyone's generosity. Thank you for making our birthdays so special!

Yay for the First Day!

We were very busy today getting to know our new classroom and making new friends! When we got to school we played with playdoh as we said goodbye to our mommies and daddies!

At The Christ School, we have daily chapel. We hear stories, messages, praise and worship songs, learn to use the hymnal, and learn how to pray and say the pledges to the American and Christian Flags.
When we got back from Chapel, we began our day! We started learning classroom rules and how to write in our journal.

Our room mom even made us some elephant cookies for our first day! We were so excited to show them off!

We are busy making a special frame for our first day of kindergarten pictures we took. Here is a sneak peak...

We had such a fun day of learning, and we're excited to come back to school tomorrow!

My Dad is a DandyLion!

Last week we celebrated our Dandylions, AKA, our dads!
The kindergarten dads at The Christ School started their morning in chapel. The kids sat on their dad's lap and listened to a message about being rooted when tested, knowing that God is always with you no matter what happens in your life.

After chapel we headed back to our class for bagels and juice. We enjoyed bagels of all flavors! Pumpkin, cinnamon, raisin, and strawberry just to name a few. Dads wrote in their child's journal thanking them for inviting them to school. It was a sweet time.
Thank you Einstein's for the yummy bagels! My favorite was pumpkin! What was yours?

They also presented them with their DandyLions! My Dad is a DandyLion because...

After some time in our classroom, we all headed to the book fair! The children and their dads chose books together and we ended our time by saying goodbye with our new books!

Thank you Dads for making this an extra special day for your child! We enjoyed having you!

City Kids Trip!

Today was our first walking field trip to the downtown Orlando library! We walked from school to the library on Central.

We started out our morning by hearing a few silly stories!

After our story time, we all got to check out a book. Here we are reading the books we chose!

We learned how to check out books at a real library! We each had our own card and stood in line to check out.

After the library, we walked down the street to the city Lymmo. We all hopped on for a ride back to school!

Happy Tuesday!
